Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
Copperfield flue liner replacement in Dallas typically runs between $1,800 and $4,600 installed, depending on the liner diameter, chimney height, and whether the old liner fights us on the way out. We stock Copperfield-compatible replacement liners and the connectors, caps, and termination kits that go with them, which means most swaps in Dallas are done in a single visit. Most homeowners find out their Copperfield liner has failed during a sweep or inspection, when the camera shows a crack, a separated seam, or corrosion that’s been quietly letting flue gas find a new path. Hank Delano has pulled enough failed Copperfield liners out of Dallas chimneys to know the failure pattern by heart: water gets in, thermal cycling does the rest, and the liner gives up years before the masonry around it.
Which Copperfield Models This Applies To
Copperfield flue liners are built around standard diameter sizing, and the replacement has to match the appliance, not just the hole in the chimney. The two most common Copperfield configurations we replace in Dallas are the 6-inch and 8-inch stainless steel flexible liners, used for gas water heaters, furnaces, and the occasional gas fireplace insert. If your Copperfield liner is ovalized or rectangular, that’s a custom-order situation, and we’ll need the exact measurements from the top of the chimney to the appliance collar before we quote it. Check the metal tag on the liner termination cap or the data plate on the gas appliance itself: the liner diameter is usually stamped right there. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, Copperfield’s proprietary locking system means generic liners won’t always seat correctly at the coupler. We use genuine Copperfield brand components when the system requires that specific mating profile, and when the chimney allows it, we’ll recommend a comparable stainless liner in the same diameter from DuraFlex or HeatShield, which serve the same function at a better price. Copperfield failure points, once you know what to look for, follow a predictable map.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Visible rust or water stains on the firebox floor or damper. This is the classic Dallas sign. Humid springs and hard summer rains push moisture down an unlined terra-cotta flue, and the Copperfield liner catches the fallout. When the liner rusts through, condensate and rainwater wick back down into the firebox. The stain shows up before the smell does.
- A sharp, acrid smell near the fireplace or furnace closet when the appliance is running. Flue gas that should be going up is finding a gap in the liner seam and bleeding back into the living space. In a tightly built Dallas home, this is the first thing you smell on a cold morning with the heat running.
- White or brown deposits on the outside of the chimney brick. Efflorescence on the exterior often means moisture is getting inside the flue and pushing salts through the masonry. It’s a wall problem with a flue cause.
- Pieces of flue tile or metal flakes at the bottom of the chimney cleanout. When a Copperfield liner starts to go, it leaves debris. Small metallic flakes or fragments of the old clay tile behind it show up in the cleanout door. You shouldn’t be seeing metal in there.
- The carbon monoxide detector near the utility room fires intermittently. A failed liner on a gas furnace or water heater doesn’t always announce itself loudly. The detector is the last line of defense, and in Dallas, where gas appliances run hard from November through March, a liner failure shows up first as a CO alarm that stops when you open a window.
If you’re seeing any of these, stop running the appliance and give us a call at (361) 492-4099. A camera inspection takes less than an hour and tells you whether the liner is failing or whether something else is going on.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, a standard Copperfield flue liner replacement runs $1,800 to $3,200 for a single-story chimney with straightforward access. A two-story chimney or one with a steep roof pitch pushes the range to $3,000 to $4,600, because the job needs more setup, more equipment, and more care on the roof. Every quote includes removal of the old liner, installation of the new Copperfield or Copperfield-compatible liner, the top plate and rain cap, and a camera inspection before and after, so you see the condition of the flue and the finished install. That camera footage is yours to keep. The price we quote is the price on the invoice, and it’s covered by our written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a covered repair fails within a year, we return at no charge. No re-quote, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
An owner in Dallas can check a few things safely: shine a flashlight up the flue from the firebox floor, look for rust flakes or water staining at the cleanout, and feel for any unusual draft when the appliance is running. What you should not do is pull a failed Copperfield liner yourself. The liner is heavy when it comes out, it’s often wedged tight against the old clay tile, and on a gas appliance, working below the roof line means disconnecting and reconnecting venting that carries carbon monoxide. Get that wrong and you’ve traded a liner problem for a CO problem. If you want to do the diagnosis, we’ll do the surgery. Call (361) 492-4099 and we’ll camera the flue and tell you straight what the liner needs.
FAQs
A Copperfield stainless liner installed in a Dallas chimney typically lasts 15 to 25 years, but water intrusion, acidic flue gas from a high-efficiency appliance, or an improperly supported liner can cut that to a decade. The biggest variable in Dallas isn’t the liner, it’s the cap above it. If the rain cap is loose or missing, a Texas storm chain will end the liner’s life early.
A Copperfield liner with a small hole or single separated seam can sometimes be patched with a stainless band or a short splice section, but most failures we see in Dallas involve multiple trouble spots or corrosion that has thinned the whole liner wall. If the metal is compromised in more than one location, replacement is the honest call. We’ll show you the camera footage and you’ll see why. Call (361) 492-4099 for an exact diagnosis.
A standard Copperfield liner swap on a one-story Dallas home takes about four to six hours from arrival to cleanup. A two-story chimney or a liner that breaks apart during extraction can stretch it to a full day. We give you a written window before we arrive, and the price doesn’t change if we have to fight the old liner out.
Yes. We keep 6-inch and 8-inch Copperfield-compatible liners, couplers, top plates, and caps on hand in our Dallas inventory, so most replacements don’t need a follow-up visit. If your chimney needs a non-standard diameter or an ovalized configuration, we order it and schedule the install as soon as the part lands.
If you have a Copperfield liner that’s showing its age or a camera report that says it’s failed, call (361) 492-4099. We’ll walk you through what we see, what it costs, and when we can have it done. All of it in writing before any work starts.
